USF has denied that it used race as a determining factor to terminate former employee James Dragna.

Dragna, former senior associate vice president of student affairs, filed a legal complaint with the Hillsborough County Circuit Court last month, accusing his former boss, Student Affairs Vice President Jennifer Meningall, of firing him because of his race (Dragna is white and Meningall is black).

Task force targets top positions

The Faculty Senate has established a group charged with assessing the entire administrative structure of the University for efficiency in light of a $50.4 million budget cut. This group, called the "Faculty Senate Task Force to Review the Administrative Structure of the University of South Florida," was not only created because of budget cuts but also because the University needed a more streamlined administrative system, said Laurence Branch, president-elect of the Faculty Senate.

Laid-off staff won't go quietly

While President Judy Genshaft has guaranteed tenured faculty members job security during budget reductions, other USF employees face a slash of 450 positions, about 70 of which are filled. Economic belt-tightening has left approximately 34 staff members jobless and forced others to relocate or take demotions, said Michael Stephens, director of USF Human Resources.

The University of Abuja and Florida A&M University signed a memorandum of agreement Friday morning to broaden and further expand cultural boundaries between the two university.

At 9 a.m., a press conference was held on the fourth floor of Lee Hall to announce the relationship, which will allow FAMU students and faculty to study abroad.

FAMU accreditation is back on track

The Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACS) Thursday lifted the probation of Florida A&M University and reinstated their accreditation.

During its annual meeting, SACS removed FAMU from probation and requested no further reports.

"We have been able to solve and address the critical issues that threatened the very existence of this university," said FAMU President James H.
